Viktor Razgulin works in the 'primitive' style, which can be explained with his origins (born in Gorodets) and interpretation of the French tradition going back to Matisse. Here the 'primitive' style should be understood as an early modernist fascination with the sensory experience as opposed to too literal, photographic life presentation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the traditional folk culture was of great interest - it is no mere chance that Picasso borrowed some Cubist techniques from Visigothic artists who painted Catalan churches. Viktor Razgulin's large formats and decorative flat forms in depiction are combined with perfectly arranged composition, Monetesque color choice - all this gives birth to the style of the renowned master.

Viktor Razgulin was born in 1948. There were repeated attempts to enter the Leningrad Art School named after S.V. Serov. Finally, he went there in 1974 (at first his bold approach to painting caused suspicion). In 1979, he joined the youth section of the Artists' Union of the USSR. From then Viktor has taken active participation in national and international exhibitions (over the past 20 years - more than 15 solo ones). In 1983, he was awarded the silver medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. Since 2011, he is a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts. The works are reposited in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and many other Russian museums, as well as in private Russian collections in and abroad.
